Catechists, Substitutes, Aides & Baby-sitters for Children of Catechists
Weekly religion classes are offered for children in grades Kindergarten through 8. Classes are offered on Sunday evenings for high school students. Catechists are recruited each fall. New catechists are requested to take a 6-hour basic training course to prepare them for the classroom. In addition, many excellent workshops and lectures are offered in the parish, region and archdiocese for all catechists, new and returning. Catechists need not be professional teachers but should have a love of children and a desire to share their faith. The Coordinator of Religious Education supervises catechists. Those who cannot teach each week are encouraged to volunteer as the coordinator's aides, classroom aides, substitute catechists and as baby-sitters to care for the catechists' children during the classes. Public school students, grades Kindergarten through high school, are encouraged to participate in the School of Religion. Trained catechists share their Catholic faith, Church teachings and traditions with young Catholics. Classes are held from mid-September to mid-May in St. Joseph Education Center, 11505 Johnson Drive.
