"Bio"

Dr. Barbara Leyden joined the St. Joseph staff in August 2010 as Director of Music Ministry.  She directs Hosanna! our contemporary choral ensemble that sings at 9am Sunday Mass and the Awesome Angels Youth Choir.  She serves as contact person and coordinator of all other parish choirs and a dedicated group of volunteer cantors and organists. 

Barbara as earned a Doctor of Musical Arts for the American Conservatry of Music in Sacred Music Conducting, a Master of Music Degree at the University of Arizona in Vocal Pedagogy/Music Education and a Master of Music Degree at North Dakota State University.  After growing up playing the organ for a tiny church in rural North Dakota, she has enjoyed serving liturgy and making sacred music all over the world, including Germany and Korea.  Highlights of singing in various types of musical ensembles were singing in hte NDSU Concert Choir with Dr. Edwin Fissinger, the Sierra Vista Meistersingers and the Cochise College Community Choir in Arizona, the Honolulu Symphony Chorus with guest conductor Robert Shaw, and the Kansas City Festival Singers under Dr. William Baker.
